Favorite Mistake

We were playing Mrs. Smith’s class in a game of capture the flag in p.e. The other team was trying to score and I tried to pull his flag but he held on it and my hand got caught in it. Someone pulled his flag before he scored, but then later someone scored and we lost the game. When we were walking back to the locker rooms I felt my finger’s pulse, I looked down on it and noticed I could not bend my finger. It did not look as bad as the last time I broke my finger, so I thought I had just jammed it. I went to the Health Office and got some ice, but that didn’t help. When I came out one of my friends asked me, “It really hurts that much?”
“Yeah it hurts like hell!” I answered.
“You probably just jammed it or something.”
“I hope so it doesn’t look as bad as last time I broke my finger though.”
            “What the heck even happened?”
“I told you my hand got caught in Oscar’s flag.” The bell rang and he went to class. I went to the hospital that night and they took some x- rays and told me it was broken so I had to wear a splinter for 2- 3 months. The next week my class was playing capture the flag again. They played a game while I was sitting on the sideline, but they lost. The next game I convinced Mr. Regan to let me play. While I was playing I caught a ball and it hurter like hell. I didn’t mention this to anyone especially my mom. A few weeks later school ended, but I had to wear the splinter for another month before I could start to bend my finger. I didn’t take care of my finger, as I should have that was stupid of me. Something stupid thing I did was take the splinter about two weeks before I was supposed to start to try to bend my finger. I also wasn’t using the splinter and started to use my hand for things I had to do around the house not thinking that that could affect me.

Even though I did not think about my broken finger as much as I was supposed to, I don’t regret it. Something I learned was that not taking care of a broken bone will affect you for the rest of your life. Even though it might not hurt while not doing something it
does feel weak when there is pressure on it. For example, I was throwing the football around with my cousin and smashed my finger and it felt like it broke again even though it was just the pain. Sometimes in the cold it also feel weird like when your trying to bite something cold that pain in your teeth that is what I feel when it is really cold. So, now I know that it is better to be patient then to not take care of a broken bone because it is going to affect you the rest of your life.
